Siwa is the most mysterious, the most remote and the least visited of all Egyptian Oases. Siwa is unique in Egypt, it has a distinct culture and its own language. The Siwi dialect still hold out against the inroads made by Arabic through state education. The Oasis main population centre is in Siwa town, to which the Siwis moved from the Fortress of Aghurmi earlier this century. On the rock of Aghurmi, about 4km from the town centre, sit the remains of Jupiter-Amoun Temple, home of the famous oracle that confirmed Alexander the Great in his status as a god. In the palm groves below the rock stood a second temple, but destroyed by dynamite in 1887.

Oasis is used to describe a place where you can have a rest, relax and recharge your batteries. Forget about cities crowd, cares, traffic and everyday life, just to relax and rest. As simple as such, Egypt's oases are just the suitable place for that. The desert surrounded by sand and sky, the oases have a sense of timelessness, which is very rare in the 21st century. Oasis was originally an Egyptian word (from the Coptic "Waha") and Egypt's oases are still the most varied in the world, each with a special character of its own. Wherever you stay, enjoy the tranquillity of the Bedouin lifestyle, the date groves, pigeon towers and blue-washed mud houses. For adventure and excitement explore the majesty of the desert by camel or jeep safari, spend a night under the stars and take a morning dip in the hot springs. Let the night skies and the silent spaces create your own personal oasis.

A trip to the White Desert is something should not miss. Travellers coming from Cairo to Bahariya will cross through the Black Desert. Nearby there are some Roman ruins, including a church with Coptic graffiti. Bahariya and Farafra are separated by huge golden sand dunes, which make a stunning photograph during the journey.
Once through Al-Sillim Pass you enter the White Desert, a unique landscape of surreal wind-eroded rock formations, which is particularly magical at sunrise or sunset. At these, as the moon rises over the white crags, it is easier to believe that you are surrounded by icebergs and snowdrifts or on a lunar landscape than in the middle of the desert.
